April is Sexual Assault Awareness month. So this month, we’re partnering with Family Services Incorporated to bring attention to the important work they do.
Family Services provides shelter and other resources for those experiencing the impact of abuse and victimization. To spread awareness on how others in the community can help, Family Services Inc. is hosting a Sexual Assault Awareness Month Lunch and Learn on Friday, April 26 from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM at the American Legion Park Social Hall.
The title of this lunch and learn is “Abuse in Plain Sight”, and will be lead by guest speakers, Jimmy Hinton, and Shaun Dougherty.
Sexual violence affects women, men, and children throughout their lives and can be devastating for individuals, families, and communities. However, by working together, we can change the conditions that contribute to sexual violence by actively working to create safe communities for everyone.
We can do this through:
- Promoting and sharing respectful behaviors.
- Taking action steps when you hear someone, a family member, friend, or co-worker, make inappropriate comments or engaging in victim blaming.
- Supporting victims and survivors of sexual assault by sharing information on sexual violence and how sexual assault is a choice made by the perpetrator.
Those who are interested in attending this upcoming lunch and learn are encouraged to register by April 21st.
Donations to help cover training expenses will be accepted at the event.
Training Certificates will be provided for attendees.
