For the Month of April, our Charity Spotlight is The Mountain Lion BackPack Program. This organization equips students to be physically and mentally prepared to learn, and they proactively support over 1,200 Altoona Area Elementary school children every weekend.
The 2017-2018 School year is quickly coming to a close, but preparations for next year are already underway. The MLBP is funded entirely by local individuals and businesses, and receive no additional state or federal government funding.
To achieve their goal of feeding the 1200-1500 children with need in our district, their annual budget is approximately $120,000. And for more than seven years, Blair County community members have faithfully pulled together to support them.
We at Alto-Reste Park and The Good Funeral Home want to bring more attention to the excellent work the MLBP is doing and help them continue for many more years to come.
So during the month of April, we will match every dollar donated to the Mountain Lion Backpack Program (up to a total of $5000). It only takes approximately $3 to feed one student for one weekend. It only takes around $100 to feed a child throughout the entire school year. So it doesn’t take much to have an impact. Any amount you can give will help area kids succeed in school because they won’t be distracted by hunger.
