Memorial Day Service

 

This Memorial Day, Join Us in Remembering

On Sunday, May 26th, at 2:00 PM, Alto-Reste Park, and the Good Funeral Home are taking a moment to honor the millions who have served, fought and died to protect our rights and liberties.

All community members and their families are invited to attend our special Memorial Day service and take part in commemorating and celebrating the lives of our country’s fallen heroes.

The ceremony this year will include guest speakers Sergeant Major Evan Good and
Sam Dunkle, LTC (USA Retired)

Sergeant Major Evan Good is a member of the fourth generation of the R.P. Good family. He graduated from State College Area High School and later enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps on August 17, 1999. In January 2003, he deployed with Regimental Combat Team-2, 2D Marine Expeditionary Brigade, Task Force Tarawa in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom I. As a result of performance while serving on Drill Instructor Duty, was selected to attend the Army Airborne School in Fort Benning, Georgia where he graduated as the NCO Honor Graduate and was subsequently awarded the Walter Morris plaque for outstanding leadership.

Sergeant Major Good was selected to his current rank in November 2015 and was frocked in March 2016 to Sergeant Major. Upon being frocked, he transferred to his current position for duties as the Inspector Instructor Sergeant Major, 3d Battalion, 14th Marines Regiment, located in Bristol, Pennsylvania. He is married to his high school sweetheart, the former Ms. Denise Texidor, and together they have two beautiful children, Ashton and Juliana. Read more about Sg. Maj. Good ->


Sam Dunkle is a retired Lieutenant Colonel having served 23 years in the US Army. He is a combat and disabled Veteran, serving in Infantry, Special Operations and Intelligence assignments. Significant Awards include the Legion of Merit, a Soldier’s Medal for heroic actions in Bosnia, and a Bronze Star Medal for Desert Storm. Upon his retirement in 2003, he served as a GS-15 Intelligence Officer with assignments at the Central Intelligence Agency, Office of the Director of National Intelligence, and the National Counterterrorism Center until 2011.

 
He is currently serving as the Deputy Commandant at the Hollidaysburg Veteran’s Home. He is married to his wife, Cindy, who is also a veteran. They have a 19-year-old son named Josh who attends Millersville University. The Dunkles reside in the Hollidaysburg area. Read more about Mr. Dunkle ->

  • Placing of Wreath at Veteran’s Garden

  • Release of Doves

 *live ammo will NOT be used

The Greater Pennsylvania Military Preservation will also be present with their squad so community members can get up close to restored U.S. military vehicles, artillery pieces, and other memorabilia.
