Memorial Day Service

This Memorial Day, Join Us in Remembering

On Sunday, May 27th, at 2:00 PM, Alto-Reste Park and the Good Funeral Home are taking a moment to honor the millions who have served, fought and died to protect our rights and liberties.

All community members and their families are invited to attend our special Memorial Day service and take part in commemorating and celebrating the lives of our country’s fallen heroes.

The ceremony this year will include guest speakers PA State Representative Judy Ward and Navy Veteran Kevin Snyder.

Judy Ward became the first female state representative in Blair County’s history when she was elected to serve the people of the 80th Legislative District on Nov. 4, 2014. Judy is a Registered Nurse, as well as a former small business owner, development professional and wellness coordinator for Ward Transport and Logistics. A lifelong resident of Blair County, Judy graduated from Hollidaysburg High School and the Altoona Hospital School of Nursing.

She is a longtime member of the Blair County Chamber of Commerce, having graduated from the Chamber Leadership Blair County Program, and is a graduate of the Pennsylvania Rural Urban Leadership Program (R.U.L.E.) through Penn State University, which encourages and fosters the development of adult community leaders from all segments of the state, especially agricultural communities. Having served on many community and professional boards, she remains active with Food for Families Soup Kitchen and St. Leonard’s Home.

Kevin Snyder was born in Washington DC at Bolling Air Force Base and grew up on a farm in Wapwallopen, PA. He himself served in the US Navy from 1979 to 1987, which included some time on the USS Parche. He is currently a project manager for NPC in Claysburg, PA. He is also an avid motorcycle rights activist and Current District Rep in ABATE of PA. He and his wife Peggy have ridden all over the United States on two wheels, sometimes three if you count her trike.

John Clay, WTAJ-TV News Anchor and US Navy Veteran, will be emceeing our Memorial Day Service for the second consecutive year. While in the Navy, John served in various TV and radio jobs for the Armed Forces Radio and Television Service. Following his military service and college education, he joined WTAJ in 1998. His life is now full with taking adventures with his family in the parks and ski mountains of Pennsylvania. He also volunteers time for various veteran initiatives and events including the American Cancer Society.
